Geography of Rome, Greece and India

Many ancient civilizations geography have similar but different geography. Rome, Greece and India all have mountains and rivers. The three civilizations are peninsulas. Rome has a lot of hills and Greece and India don't have as many hills as Rome. India is a subcontinent and Rome and Greece are not subcontinents. They all have good farm land and the all use they rivers, mountains, and oceans to their advantage.

Some examples of mountains are Mt. Olympus in Greece and it also has a mountain range called the Cambunian Range, the Alps in Rome and the Himalayas in India. Each civilization has ranges but not all of them have a major single mountain. All three of them used the mountains to their advantage. They used the mountains for defense. But one bad thing for Greece was that the mountains separated them so communication and travel was hard. Unlike in India and Rome the mountains do not separate them so they could communicate and travel very easily.

Also they have main rivers, too.India has the Indus river. Rome has the Po and Tiber rivers. But Greece didn't have any main rivers. Greece was not known for their rivers. Even though the rivers were good they could be bad at the same time. When it rained the river could flood and kill people and crops but when it didn't rain the rivers could be used for irrigation. When the rivers didn't flood that could be bad because the water could not reach the plants and kill them.

The size of the three countries is different. Rome is 496 sq. mi. Greece is 50, 962 sq. mi. India is 1,296,346 sq. mi. Out of all three civilizations India is the largest and Rome is the smallest. The size of the civilizations matters because the bigger the civilization the more people could live there and farm and make the land better, the more people that live there the more people could be taxed and be part of the army. The more people that get taxed the more money could be made for the civilization.

The crop land is very different in each civilization. In India the land is okay unlike in Rome and Greece. Rome and Greece can grow many crops like olives and wheat but India can not grow olives. Rome and Greece were right off the ocean so their land could be fertilized. But north India would have trouble fertilizing their land. Southern India would have an easier job at fertilizing their land because they could use the ocean. When they used the ocean they could could grow fish and them sell them and make money off them.

Now knowing some facts about these civilizations geography we can conclude that they used their surrounding to their advantage. They all used mountains for protection. They used the rivers for farming and trade. And they used their size to their advantage in war and to grow.
