Ancient governments are very different from each other as well as similar. The government of Ancient Greece is very different from the government of the Roman Republic and Egypt. They were also very similar.

Greece, Rome, and Egypt all have very different governments. In Rome, there were two consuls who ruled the civilization. This is different from Egypt and Greece because Greece had a group of representatives called the Assembly, and Egypt had a pharaoh who had complete power over the Egyptian land and people. Since leaders are the base of the government, leaders form the government and have a significant role in these civilizations. Another difference is that Egypt is a monarchy, which is when the ruler is not voted for, they gain their power by blood, and Rome and Greece are democracies, which is when citizens vote for a ruler. Because of the different forms of government lifestyle could change in these civilizations. One more difference is that Rome had tribunes to protect the rights of plebeians, which are the poorer people of the republic, while Egypt and Greece don’t have government officials to protect the poor people’s rights. This is a big difference because this shows that Rome cared about the people of the republic, but Egypt and Greece just let poor people die on the streets and they didn't care. Additionally, Rome and Greece didn’t have queens, but Egypt did. Some queens, like Cleopatra and Hatsheput, were so desperate for power they took drastic measures like dressing as a man and killing family members. Those are some differences between Greek, Roman, and Egyptian government.

These civilizations are also very similar. A between Rome and Greece is that they were both democracies. A similarity between Greece and Egypt is that both civilizations started as monarchies, although Greece them became an oligarchy, then tyranny, then democracy. A similarity between Rome and Egypt is that Rome had dictators and Egypt had viziers to help the main rulers. They were like the ruler's right-hand men. One similarity between all three civilizations is they had very strong armies and won most of their wars. This is important because without a good army the civilization would crumble. Additionally,in all three civilizations the rulers had a lot of power. Also, Rome and Greece both had a governing body with representative, called the Senate in Rome and the Assembly in Greece. That is how these civilizations are similar.
