Comparing and Contrasting the Lifestyles of Egypt, Greece, and Rome

Egypt, Greece, and Rome were three different Ancient Civilizations that are similar and different in many ways. For one thing, Egypt was all about preserving deceased bodies, unifying Egypt, and worshipping gods and pharaohs. Rome focused more on conquering new lands and expanding their empire. Greece was concerned about battle, but they did not focus on it nearly as much as Rome did. Greece also stressed on subjects such as biology, medicine, mathematics, physics, and astronomy. These are just some of the comparisons and contrasts of Egypt, Greece, and Rome, but the main focus is on the comparisons and contrasts of lifestyle.

Greece and Rome may be on the same continent, but they had completely different lifestyles. Greece and Rome both had basic class systems, but Rome's class system was much more defined than Greece's. You had more of a "place" in society in Rome than if you lived in Greece. Rome was very focused on military, unlike Greece who strived to have more education to make lives better, especially Athens, even though they were still focused on military. They had different opinions on the way that their lives' should be led. Greece and Rome both cared about the Gods, but the way they portrayed them and honored them was different. Greece held the Olympics for Zeus, but the Romans didn't do anything that special. Egypt has a set social class while Greece doesn't. The ruler of Egypt was the pharaoh. Following the pharaoh, were the nobles and priests. After that were the merchants, craftsmen, scribes, and farmers. Finally, there are the unskilled workers and enslaved people. This is lifestyle because this pyramid tells people how to lead their lives. Also, Greece was more focused on sports and recreation while Egypt was more concentrated on respecting the Gods and pharaohs. Every four years, the Greeks held the Olympics, which was an important sporting event. People came to participate in this extremely competitive event. Egypt, on the other hand, believed their pharaoh was a god and everyone was forced to worship him/her. Rome, unlike other civilizations, stressed on warfare and conquering foreign lands. They took over Greece, present day Italy, England, France, and even parts of Asia and Africa. Rome focused on warfare, and did daily competitions that were bloody and gruesome. Egypt on the other hand, stressed more on worshiping their gods and tending to the deceased for the afterlife, but they still did focus on conquering lands, but not nearly as much as Rome. Egypt also focused more on expanding their country and building great structures, such as pyramids and the Giant Sphinx. Though Ancient Egypt and Rome had many differences, they also had many similarities. Egypt lived under one ruler and so did Rome for a part of its reign over its nation. They also both had slaves to work and respond to their every request, but Rome had more respect for the slaves than Egypt did.

All these facts make Greece, Egypt, and Rome similar and different in many ways. From this we learned that their similarities and differences make them unique. If they only had similarities, then there would be no Social Studies, because everything would be the same. If there were only differences, the civilizations would be so different that there would be no point in comparing them. Similarities and differences make everyone who they are, and they are still a big part of our every-day lives.
