In most ancient civilizations, citizens would believe in many different things. However, there are some similarities between each civilization. In Ancient Rome (empire), Greece, and India, there were many similarities and differences between these three culture's religions. First, we are going to discuss how they are similar.
All of these civilizations honor and respect a god or something that protects their families from bad things. For example, the Greeks worshipped Aphrodite because when someone got married, they would say a prayer to Aphrodite about how they would want their love to last forever. The Indians worshipped and respected Brahma and they would make prayers and sacrifices to Brahma. The Roman Empire had a belief of cult worship. The cult worship was when the Romans believed in spirits that protected their family. Also, they all wanted to somehow incorporate the gods into their own life. In India, they would have a shrine to worship gods in their home. The Greeks also did the same thing as the Indians, they would build shrines in their homes to honor all of the gods and goddesses. The Roman Empire would also build shrine just like the Greeks and Indians, and they would do rituals to benefit the gods. There are a lot of similarities, but also many differences.
There are several differences between these religions. All of the religions have a different name, for example Hinduism is for India, Christianity is for Rome, and Greek mythology is for Greece. Another example of a difference in religion, is that the Greeks thought that the gods lived in one place, Mount Olympus. The Indians thought differently; they thought thought that the gods were all around them and went everywhere with them. The Romans thought that gods roamed the Earth and changed forms. Another difference is that all of the religions thought differently about the monotheism and polytheism. The Greeks were polytheistic, meaning that they believed in many different gods such as Poseidon (god of the sea), Zeus (god of the sky), Aphrodite (the goddess of love), and many more.
Indian God Brahman
Greeks believed in Mt. Olympus, where all of the Greek Gods live
The Indians were monotheistic, which meant that they believed in one god; Brahma.
The Romans were also monotheistic. They believed in one God which was Jesus.
As you can see, there are many differences and similarities between the Greek, Indian, and Roman religion. Even though you might think that one culture is completely different from another, think that between every culture's religion, there are similarities.
