Instructions for Completing this Wiki

This activity will require students to analyze information from the course of the year. Using the worksheets, textbook, and notes you have taken on the different civilizations, you will choose one aspect of a civilization to analyze, compare, and contrast among three ancient civilizations.

Topics Include:
  • Government & Leadership
  • Religion
  • Social Structure
  • Lifestyle
  • Geography & Location
  • Economy

Students will choose a partner and topic. These should be submitted to the discussion board; topics will be assigned on a first come first served basis depending upon the time of the post. You can utilize Google Docs to conduct your writing.

PART 1 (must be submitted by Thursday, 5/23)
The first part of the wiki will be to create a lengthy paragraph (approximately one page, double spaced) which discusses the similarities and differences of your topic among the different civilizations you which to discuss. Your paragraph should outline at least three similarities and differences among the civilizations. Once you and your partner have crafted this portion of the assignment, you are to copy and paste the text version onto the appropriate page where it will sit until you receive comments from your classmates and teachers in its discussion board.

PART 2 (must be submitted by Friday, 5/24)
Your next task is to read your fellow classmates posts and offer constructive and purposeful criticism supporting any of your thoughts with evidence. This will allow you to see what other students are writing and have a chance to comment of your classmates. You can comment on a submission from either class, but you must comment on at least two posts. The conversation should continue if necessary from the post and reply. Please be sure to check the discussion boards for each page to see responses.

PART 3 (must be submitted by Tuesday, 5/28)
Your final submission of your comparing/contrasting of the three civilizations must be added or changed on the appropriate page. You do this by clicking on the page on the left and edit once you get to that page. This will be graded by your teacher. Your edit and addition is final. Make sure it makes sense and is free of grammatical error.

PART 4 (must be typed & submitted on the Discussion Board or shared via Google Drive by Wednesday, 5/29)
The final part to this project is a reflection piece. From all of the information that you have read and the process that you used for this assignment, answer the following questions:
1. Which of the six topics is the MOST important aspect that a civilization needs to have in order to thrive? Why? Provide evidence and support in answering this question.
2. From this process, what have you learned about the use of technology as a way to communicate with classmates and learn about a topic? Have you learned anything new about yourself through the process? If so, what?
